Simple Tips That Will Help You Sleep More Soundly At Night

Want to sleep more soundly at night? Follow these tips to do so.

Eliminate as much light as possible at night.

Get rid of any nightlights and turn your alarm clock away from you to minimize the amount of light in your room.

Turn off overhead lights as bedtime approaches, opting instead for lamps that give off a softer glow.

Plug in a nightlight in your bathroom. That way, you won’t have to turn on the bright overhead light if you need to use the bathroom during the night.

Turn off the TV when you go to bed.

Increase your light exposure during the day.

Try to get plenty of exposure to natural light first thing in the morning. This can help kick your body clock into action for the day.

Whenever possible, take a break outdoors, spending as much time as possible in the sun. For instance, you might try finding an exercise that you can do outdoors or walking your dog during daylight hours.

Let more light into your house by opening up your blinds or curtains.

Turn off your devices.

Before you go to sleep, turn off your phone or tablet. Otherwise, any alerts that come in during the night could keep you from falling asleep or could make it harder to stay asleep.

Stick to a regular schedule.

Try to get up at the exact same time every day. This will help your body develop a natural sleep rhythm.

If necessary, take naps to catch up on any sleep that you missed. Limit your naps to half an hour, however. Otherwise, you may find it harder to fall asleep at night.

Don’t nap in the late afternoon or evening. Instead, if you are going to take a nap, try to fit it in before 3:00 PM.

Relax before bed.

Try bathing before bed to relax your muscles and your mind.

An easy way to let your mind know that it is time for bed is by slipping on a pair of pajamas.

Consider performing relaxing activities before bed such as gentle stretching, meditation, deep breathing, or yoga.

Create a safe environment for sleeping.

We’re all different; understand how sleep, diet, and exercise has an impact on your health.

Make sure that your smoke alarms are working. If necessary, have a security system installed to minimize outside threats.

Invest in a quality mattress such as this style from Hampton and Rhodes.

Create the right conditions for sleep.

Avoid keeping your bedroom too hot. It is easier to sleep when temperatures are a bit more on the cool side.

Get rid of allergens in your bedroom. Vacuum regularly and consider using an air purifier to trap and remove airborne allergens.
